Story Highlight
If you enjoy a bit of old school then you'll love Saturday Night Dance Anthems.
When I first got asked to present my radio show I thought to myself "What a result" I have been buying records since I was nine and by the age of 13 was DJing every Friday at the local school disco in Irvine.
Kids would come from all over to hear me playing the 12" records I had bought the previous Saturday from the record shop that I could barely see over the counter. I had a smoke machine, strobe light and even a big Shiny Disco ball I'm told it's still there today as a wee monument!
When I say kids came to hear me play records, most were up the back snogging or guzzling on American creme soda from the tuck shop but it was always busy and the highlight of my weekend. Now some 20 odd years on "Floorfillers" is the highlight of my weekend and I play a selection of old skool dance tracks, some even original vinyl copies from my school disco days.
From the tons of emails and texts that come in each week I find the show has two audiences. The first is people who lived and loved the late 80s early 90s and the music takes them back to a club they went to or people they used to hang around with. Sometimes a certain tune can just make your hair stand on end! The other, is kids who have never heard the likes of these tunes and are gagging for more up beat happy dance music. After a great learning experience on Hospital Radio in Irvine I sent a tape off to West FM and have been here since we went on air!
